We
are happy to announce that the 2019
Torch Convention will be in Durham,
North Carolina from June 20-23.
The hosting club is the Durham/Chapel
Hill Torch Club.
The registration form can
be found in hard copy in this issue of
The Torch Magazine. More
information and updates can be found on
the web at www.torch19.org
The official hotel is the
Durham Hilton. Information for
room reservations is found at the
website and on the printed registration
form in this issue. The all-inclusive
fee this year is $350 and the Durham
Hilton is $109 per night, plus
tax. If you come a few days early
or stay a few days later, Hilton will
honor the reduced rate.
Last year, many Torch
members phoned or wrote to remind me
that many of our members need to plan to
attend a convention well in advance of
the event. For many of our
members, the convention is a good part
of their summer vacation, since
attendance requires planning to attend
and money for the event, and frequently
those who attend visit relatives and
friends on the way and take in other
events and sites. So this year we
are sending out the details early so
everyone can make the convention part of
their summer plans.
Why do we have conventions?
We do, of course, conduct the business
of running Torch, and we also have a
good time. But another very
important goal of all our conventions is
to meet and talk with Torch members from
different parts of the country and to
share fellowship. Lifetime
friendships develop from the
conventions. So this June, please
come and enjoy Durham and the region,
and enjoy meeting fellow Torch members
from around the country.
